Sanibel Island Florida Overview

When the weather turns cool to the north, birds and bird watchers flock to Sanibel Island Florida, famous for its great refuge for birds and wildlife. Occupying nearly a third of the island, the JN (Ding) Darling Natural Wildlife Refuge is home to many rare species of birds, reptiles and mammals. Anyone interested in the inner workings of our fragile ecosystems will not want to miss it. Shell collecting is another big activity on Sanibel. Grab a bucket and scour the beach for conchs colorful and molluscs. Then go to Sanibel Island Florida Lighthouse. It is not open for visits, but can be seen from an area adjacent park. The island is very relaxed and lounging on the beach with a delicious novel is as good as any one plan.

More difficult is choosing your accommodation.

If you take the choices step by step and one by one, the decision will be much easier.

You know you want to go off island frequently to explore the surrounding area. Then you may well want to consider the far east end of the island. This area is home to a landscape Sanibel Light House and is closer to the sidewalk on the ticket and off the coast of Sanibel.

Or maybe you and your family much rather be in the thick of social activity holidays. You'd better stay away from one of the many complex lining the Gulf. This area has many plantings and is closer to the core of restaurants and shops.

Perhaps what is most seeking solitude, a feeling of being in some tropical hideaway, a closer relationship with the nature of the island. So you will probably prefer the term more west of the island.

This term, closer to Captiva, is less densely populated, and offers easy access to the Ding Darling Nature Preserve.

Once you have decided on the island where else do you want to be, you have many decisions to make.
